So Community Kids now has 49 total kids on its roll! Erica and I are soo excited to see all the great things God is doing in the community lately – it is AWESOME!! Last week two college teams came to Wherry Housing on their Spring Break – one group from Bryan College in Tennessee and another group from the combined BCM from Kennesaw State and Southern Poly-Technic?? These groups were so amazing!! Throughout the week they worked on several different units and in the afternoon some of them would come and help us out at the center. We reached our peak attendance on Wednesday with 45 kids and, thanks to all the extra help, everything went awesome! Erica and I came up with a rotation schedule that night that we tested out on Thursday and Friday while the teams were still here. The kids got to paint, do balloon animals, have a lot of extra attention from the teams, and – OH YEAH – see the most entertaining Moses and the burning bush skit ever! The teams were such an encouragement for Erica and me, I’m still blown away at how these guys worked so hard all day and would still have the energy to come and let five kids crawl on their backs at the same time. They were so friendly and just jumped in and did whatever was needed without hesitation. The Lord is amazing isn’t He?
However, now that the teams have left we are in need of some more volunteers during the week due to our growth. If you are interested in helping in any way please let me or Erica know. We will have a table in the concourse at Lifepoint Smyrna campus this Sunday morning during all three services so come stop by to check it out!
So here are some of the new kids:
Here is a Karen family that moved in last week. Khin, Eh Dah (like Ay Daw), Kiy Shew (Gee Shway), and Ethamu and seriously, noones told me how to write it but its sounds just like Moosebaby.
Then there is Eduardo and his two sisters Susana and Nayeli.
Skye and Caitlyn.
Mostly for what God is revealing to Erica and I about Community Kids. The rotations allow smaller groups, which allow more attention from the kids in each rotation as well as better relationships between the leaders and kids because everyone spends time with everyone. Also, we’ve decided to go through the Bible starting at the beginning and going in order instead of jumping around from one random Bible story to the next. This is not only to avoid confusing the kids, but to try and give them a solid foundation of Biblical knowledge.
I also want to thank everyone in the Missions prayer group that meets on Wednesdays. You guys are all so encouraging. I love your passion for missions as well as your devotion to consistent and effective prayer. You have no idea how much sitting in with you guys for just a month or so has impacted me. You are all WONDERFUL!
Oh and tonight I got invited into the Cruz family’s house for dinner!!! It was a delectable experience.
Please keep Wherry’s future summer interns in your prayers. There is some interest from the groups that came last week and Erica and I talked to another group last night about interning. Pray that God is making His will for those people He has called to be at Wherry this summer very clear to them and also that He is equipping them where they’re at now for the work they will be doing in the summer. I get so excited when I see people on fire for missions – it gives me goosebumps.
Also, if you or your small group are interested in helping out with our Wherry Housing Easter Party let Erica or me know! We love you all and are very gracious for your interest, support, encouragement, prayers, guidance, and love. God Bless!
